Haarlem Photo Club Summer Photo Walk 2014: feedback and photos

Haarlem! Summer! Open Air! Photography! We had the best ingredients for a wonderful PHOTO WALK. A bit of wind didn’t spoil our day: 42 photographers having a great day!

What about the shoots? Our jury, composed of our Photo Club Team members and Photographers Alex Chalkley and Gerlinde de Haas made a selection of photos of the walk and commented them and gave some names and links of masters of street photography. Our Jury’s message is: get inspired, learn from each other and learn from constructive feedback to improve your skills.

Haarlem Photo Walk 2014: tips from the Jury

Let’s return to the shoots: some ideas from our Jury, this time composed of our Haarlem Photo Club Team members and Photographers Alex Chalkley and Gerlinde de Haas.

“A general remark: there is some similarity in the pictures, similar subjects and taken from the same perspective. If you have time and you are photographing a non-moving object, try to determine what you want to photograph and look for the best composition to do so, before you press the button. Working with a (light) tripod helps you determine your exact composition better. Look at the light, a high level of contrast makes a photo more interesting to look at. Before you go out, look at some street photographers to get some ideas”.

“Here are some of our favourites:

“Get inspired, learn from each other and learn from constructive feedback to improve your skills”. “We made a proposal for the Haarlem Photo Club in which we elaborated this concept of inspiration and learning, perhaps you will hear more about it”. “We anyway started by selecting some photos of the walk and commented them”.

Haarlem Photo Walk 2014: commented selection of photos

The movement of the wings of the windmill creates a nice detail to the photo.

The photo is taken from a low perspective which creates a more unusual and more interesting photo to look at. By only showing the face of the boy and not of the cyclist, the picture has a clear focus on the boy.

Really like this one as it is taken at the right moment and it has a funny element to it. Does the cat want to be a dog and play with sticks?

Similar to no. 1, but taken from a different perspective. The moving wings versus the dark sky adds more drama and life to the picture.

Nice that it is taken from a low perspective and really close to the cat.

Nice use of different textures. The white balance seems off though, the picture appears to be to purple.
