For the fourth consecutive year, the Urban Photo Race will take place in Amsterdam on July 26, 2014. During this truly original, one-day (12 hour) digital photo competition, photographers are asked to capture a set of 18 photos divided into 6 themes while they walk, bike, or tram through Amsterdam.

Part treasure hunt, part photojournalism, the Urban Photo Race invites participants to look at the city of Amsterdam in a different way, discover new places and meet other urban-savvy photographers while using their creativity to interpret and translate different themes into photographs.

The Urban Photo Race is open to all amateur and professional photographers alike to showcase their vision and skills.

How it works

The 6 themes are disclosed by the Urban Photo Race team at 3 designated checkpoints throughout the day. Photographers must make it to all checkpoints to receive themes and qualify for entry.

At the end of the day photos are collected and later submitted to the jury. The winners will receive awards and be honoured at an exhibition that will take place in Amsterdam, 2 to 3 months after the competition day.

Head out to the Urban Photorace website to read more about it.

About The Urban Photo Race

The Urban Photo Race began in 2011 as a collaborative project between Nutabi Camargo, Luis Monteiro and Tiago Rosado. The goal was to provide an interesting way not only to discover the city but also to explore and develop your photographic skills. Making a race out of it, adding time and themes as an extra element that participants have to deal with, this takes them out of their comfort zone and gives plenty of space for creativity.
